Reason #146 - Closers
The Indians need two kinds of closers - a pitcher to ensure tight games don't "get away" and a retractable roof for bad weather. Joe Borowski does not appear to be the answer to either need.

Reason #145 - Beware of High-Priced Pitchers
Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano signed a new contract that pays him an average of $18.3 million a year over the next five years. Indians pitcher C.C. Sabathia, who's younger and a better pitcher, will want that kind of money for his new contract. We may have to choose between Sabathia and a roof. Roofs are more durable and last longer.

Reason #145 - Storms
Hurricane Dean is headed toward the United States Gulf Coast, and the remnants of the storm could end up on the United States North Coast. Summer storms cancel games and ruin fields - just like those April blizzards.

Reason #144 - Tokyo Dome
Major League Baseball is planning to have next year's baseball season open in Asia - in the Tokyo Dome, to be exact. What? Even the people who get only one series a year will have it in a dome? The Red Sox are likely to be one of the teams. A fair-weather team like the A's or Angels is expected to be the opponent. Nice planning, MLB!

Reason #143 - Wait 'til Next Year?
I heard Browns General Manager Phil Savage on the radio this morning, and he was talking about how this team could be very good in 2008 and 2009. After just one preseason game, we're already talking about next year? The good news is that we could have a dome in place long before the Browns need to worry about hosting a playoff game in January.

Reason #142 - Chicken Little
Maybe Chicken Little was right. "The sky IS falling," given the current terrible play of the Indians. Better players, better execution and perhaps better game management would help the team. But adding a dome would prevent the sky from falling too far.

Reason #141 - Excuses, Excuses, Excuses
It has been four months since the Indians' early-season snowouts, and, yet, the manager and general manager are still talking about how those missed games messed up the Indians off-days and pitching rotation, which they say is contributing to the team's current struggles. Stop making excuses and get over it. Or get on with it and start talking about putting a roof on Jacobs Field.
